Black Bean & Squash Veggie Burgers

We always have people with a variety of eating preferences & palates attending our BBQ's. In response, I've always had fun experimenting with flavors and making new burgers for our get-togethers. This time I want to share one that was tried and tested with our family recently and is sure to be a hit at your summer BBQ's. This soy-free veggie burger is packed with flavor, that plays off the herby cilantro and spicy BBQ sauce, topped with an avocado slice on a sesame seed bun. BearNaked's Custom Granola Review + 10%Coupon!

A couple of weeks back I received an email inviting me to try BearNaked's Custom Granola making website with  IBM's Watson measuring the flavor profile. Now, I have bought BearNaked granola before and I liked it, but I was a little skeptical about making custom granola online... I mean I could make my own custom granola myself in my kitchen, right? Nevertheless, the idea of my flavor choices being critiqued by Watson piqued my interest and the following is a review of the product and my experience.

First off, their website is great, colorful and easy to navigate while giving you direct instructions as to what to do and what to expect. So here we go, to get started you have the choice of 3 base granolas and from there you get to add 3 flavoring ingredients from a list of 50, ranging from jalapeños to sesame seeds.
As you add your flavorings, IBM's Watson calculates the synergy of your flavorings profile and afterward you get to name your creation and choose a representative bear for the cover.

There are some preset chef blends you can choose but it's more fun to experiment with adding your own combination of flavorings. I decided to go with the Honey Granola Base and added Almonds, Blueberries, and Bourbon flavoring and proceeded to name it "Bourbon Blue." The next part was truly difficult, which bear to pick? It was a deadlock between Earnest and Susan. Earnest is a great name for a product, after all Oscar Wilde did write, "There is something in that name that inspires absolute confidence." Alas, his hipster styling didn't really suit me so 'bear-naked' Susan won.

I received the package 3 days later, and it was well packed with my granola's name on it and specific ingredient and nutrition information on the label. The 3 flavorings melded really well and you could definitely smell/taste the bourbon flavoring. I did feel like it was missing something but that could be attributed to being limited to only adding 3 flavorings, and may be offset by how you plan on eating it. I decided to use it for a coconut yogurt parfait and it was perfect!

If you like the idea of customizing and playing with flavorings without messing up your kitchen, I would definitely recommend trying Custom BearNaked Granola
