Black Bean & Squash Veggie Burgers

We always have people with a variety of eating preferences & palates attending our BBQ's. In response, I've always had fun experimenting with flavors and making new burgers for our get-togethers. This time I want to share one that was tried and tested with our family recently and is sure to be a hit at your summer BBQ's. This soy-free veggie burger is packed with flavor, that plays off the herby cilantro and spicy BBQ sauce, topped with an avocado slice on a sesame seed bun. Sesame Seed Beef Stir-fry

This is one of my favorite recipes to cook and eat! It is a quick recipe that results in a delicious meal. It's also versatile and forgiving, when I didn't have hot bean sauce I used a 1/2 tsp of sriracha instead, and while beef is preferable, you can always substitute chicken breast, turkey tenderloin, pork strips or firm tofu.  Tender, flavorful marinaded beef, coated in a slightly sweet and spicy sesame sauce.

Sesame Seed Beef Stir-fry Cooking for Kishore


  •  1lb Beef flank steak, sliced into thin strips
  • Marinade:
    • 1 Tbsp Shaoxing Cooking wine or dry sherry
    • 1/2 tsp Sugar
    • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
    • 2 tsp Cornstarch
    • 1/2 tsp baking soda
    • 1.5 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • Sauce:
    • 1.5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
    • 1.5 tsp Hoisin Sauce
    • 1.5 tsp Hot Bean Sauce
    • 1.5 tsp Oyster Sauce
    • 1/2 tsp garlic ginger paste
    • 1 tsp cornstarch
    • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • Green Onions, sliced
  • Vegetable Oil


  1. Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl add beef and let sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan or wok. Stir-fry marinated beef till lightly brown and remove from oil. Mix sauce ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Keep oil hot add mixed sauce ingredients, cooking & stirring till it thickens.
  4. Add cooked beef and mix well. Top off with sliced green onions and serve hot with rice. Enjoy!
Yield: Serves 4-6

Cook time: 10 mins.
